Kunal Mehra [Kunal Khemu] lives a middle-classed lifestyle in Borivali, Mumbai, along with his disapproving dad, Purabi [Sharat Saxena], and supportive mom, Kusum [Reema Lagoo]. He has a sweetheart in Mausam [Tulip Joshi], an aspiring Journalist. Ever since he was 8 years old, Kunal wanted to act in Bollywood movies much to his dads displeasure. He did play the part of Bhagwan Shri Hanuman in a play in school, but has been not very successful in landing any major part in any movie. He gets a break when his look-alike, Karan Saxena [also played by Kunal Khemu], the leading man of his dads [Darshan Jariwala] production Super Star has qualms about heights and is unable to act. Kunal steps into Karans shoes, and even accompanies the unit to film in Bangkok, Thailand. Shortly thereafter the media explodes with the news that Karan has been injured, and Kunal has been killed in a car accident. Watch what impact this news has on the Mehra family, the Saxenas, Mausam, as well as on the outcome of the movie. No one knows who died: Karan or Kunal. Production

Superstar was first gonna be called The Star, the name did not work out and was changed to The Superstar. That didnt work on either because it was copyrighted from an American song. Then director Rohit Jugraj changed the name to Super Star.

Box office

= The movie got released and hit the cinemas on 8 February 2008. It had a great start and was a major hit in the first two weeks. Soon after its release, it started falling and apparently failed in the Box Office in BoxOffice-India. The movie was promoted to Hit mode at first, but then flopped and got declared to a Flop.
